Grand Junction, CO to Salina, KN

Today we had a driving marathon for 14 hours.
Too tired to post.

Shower. Sleep. Dream about driving.

No Buttons from OR, NV, UT, CO.. maybe KN?

My goal was to collect buttons from every state…
Excuses:
1.       Oregon: didn’t want to stop before we got started.

2.       Nevada: Jon said no. Also WalMart was our only option for buttons

3.       Utah.. too busy looking at scenery. Got Navajo Horse Hair pottery instead
4. Too busy with the weather
5. Hopefully! Help me out Amish!

Roger! Acknowledged!

Sometimes when I talk to Jon, he hears me.. but doesn't say anything. So I don't know if he heard me. It really bugs me! Maybe this pet peeve of mine developed from my Dad who would always make sure we acknowedgd that we heard him… but this is unfamiliar territory for Jon.
Jon and I hashed it out in the car last night about it and we decided that if he had no response to what I said, that instead of sitting their silently, he would say “rodger” so that I would know he heard me. After 12 hours in the car, it was pretty funny.
D: Those mountains are amazing.
J: Roger. Acknowledged.

Celebrity Apprentice: John Rich

Last night we watched Celebrity Apprentice on www.hulu.com because we wanted to see John Rich just tank it. When John Rich came out to Little Creek Casino in January, he was the worst person ever to deal with. He was rude, disrespectful, demanding, loud, obnoxious… all around terrible. So when we saw he was going to be on the show, we couldn’t miss it. Unfortunately, he was charming, funny and hard working.
Gary Busey on the other hand, was crazy! His part in the project was to be the “Pepperoni Profit”. He performed like a preacher of pizza to lure people in and buy pizza for charity, it was hilarious! It’s a pretty funny episode. “Wherever this pepperoni lands is where the next miracle will happen!” … “Buy some pizza and your heart will be healed and you will go to heaven!” Thank you Gary Busey for a good, well needed laugh.

Continuing on: SL to Grand Junction, CO

Plan A: Drive from beautiful Salt Lake City to Denver via Wyoming.
Estimated course time: 12 hours 38 min
Hazards: multiple snow chain required stretches, blowing snow, icy conditions. Road: RED (hazards, use caution)
Plan B: Drive from SL to Grand Junction via i70
Estimated Course time: 5 hours
Hazards: No known hazards Road: GREEN (clear)

Because of the heavy snow storm that welcomed us into SL, we decided to get a late start today to make sure roads were safe. Its 12:00p now and the roads look completely clear and dry.
Tomorrow we will need to get up extra early (weather permitting) to make up for today. We might drive past Denver if we can but we’ll see how it goes!

Tomorrow’s hazards via Southern Route: few snow spots, multiple snow chain required passes.
Solution: drive during day to maximize warmest temperatures

Salt Lake City, UT

Thankfully, we made it! The heavy snow storm was patiently waiting our arrival as there is now 6" of fresh, beautiful, sparkling powder outside -- complete with Lucky's paw stamp of approval.

We are staying the night at Scott & Leah's home catching some Z's before our estimated 9am departure onto Denver, CO! Scott and Jon went OCS together and have been friends ever since! Another 7 year reunion. They made us a delicious home made dinner to welcome us into lovely Salt Lake. I could have eaten that meal forever - it was so good. Pulled pork sandwiches, green beans, pasta salad.

Hopefully leaving in the morning won't be too difficult. The snow plow crew will be the hero's of the morning.
Time for a movie. Good night!

Donner Pass into Reno, NV

Thanks Priceline.com for our cozy, pet accepting hotel room at the amazing price of $44 - after taxes!

Jon was startled by a stranger, in a wife beater tank top, who came up behind him at 1:30am in front of the hotel elevator. There was no danger as Jon was 3x his size... tiny little fellow.. but that's Reno for you.. so sneaky. "Hey, honey, want to take the puppy out?".. "Not by myself! No way!"

We were welcomed into Reno, the biggest little city in the world, with some light snow sprinkling the roads, bright colorful lights and the instant relief that we were done driving for the night. After trudging through Donner Pass 4 hours to go 60 LONG miles.. I was ready to be done driving!

We should also note that we are now proud owners of the most expensive snow chains in the world... and Jonathan Fallin, the newest professional of installation and removal of aforementioned tire accessories.

Monterey, California

Absolutely gorgeous.

We had lunch at an itialian seafood restaurant with Rob and his wife Michelle. Rob is a friend of Jon's from the Army. A nice reunion -- after seven years! We also made a quick stop into Ghirardelli for some icecream and a giant cookie (that the puppy later ate when we weren't looking..)

On our way to Reno, we took the scenic route of 152.. breath taking! Jon loved the rich colored soil. I loved the beautiful hills and all the crops! Mandarin trees look much different than regular orange trees. "Enjoy more citrus! It's good for you!" the signs said.

Last night with the Royers

Taco night!

After we couldn't decide between japanese food, sushi, ribs, indian, italian or american... the men went to the store and got taco fixings.. the hens in the house made cupcakes.

I made delicious guac, warmed the tortias, sliced the tomatoes... Klesko cut onions, grilled meat, got everything together, Steph helped taste test, Grace pulled on Mom's pants and screamed, Emilie made cupcakes, Steve "did dishes".... washed a few things.. left a few things.. then put the pretty daisies in a vase and entertained the girls.. everyone helped! Caleb was at the neighbor boy's house and Hannah napped and watched a movie... Neko purred.. Puss n' Boots hissed.. Lucky slept on the kitchen floor.. the four parakeets hung out.. Chips barked at Dexter.. Dexter layed and ignored Chips.

Talk about a full house.

Miss Emilie's Button Collection

Emilie has a craft room! How super sweet is that. Her button collection is AMAZING! I have a lot of collecting to do...  We debated on these orange buttons. She said they were yellow.. but they weren't.

Emilie and Steve have a beautiful home filled with lots of love. I really like how it's decorated as well. Maybe I should make mental notes for the next Fallin House! :) Everything is so coordinated and colorful! I love it. All the kid's toy boxes are labled and everything. It's fantastic.

Dexter and Chips, their newest additions to the Royer clan are so cute! These puppies are tiny enough to both fit in my purse!

The parakeets are cute too! I haven't been woken up by four parakeets in ... about 15 years!

Time to go!

Goodbye Washington, leave in less than 12 hours. Shipped Deanna's car off today and repacked everything. Next stop San Francisco to see Robert Drolet and stay with Stephan Royer and Emilie Royer. Sad to be leaving our friends here but excited to start this new adventure

Would you be in my wedding?

Saturday, February 26th has finally arrived.
Last night, Friday night was easy, fun and fast!
Tonight... emotional, difficult customers and overall very distracted!

I asked Amanda to be a bridesmaid in my wedding next summer! She's so nice, caring and thoughtful; a true inspiration in my life as she juggles her life with the appearance of such ease -- I'm sure it isn't easy. Positive.  But she does a perfect job of making it look simple.

How I did it? A request inspired by a Rainer Beer bottle cap!
Clue #1 (a): A picture of a tree with an arrow pointing at the trunk. She guesses tree, stump, bark. So I try again with another..
Clue #1 (b): A picture of 4 palm trees making the shape of a "W" ... like in that movie Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World where they are racing around for the money.. she guessed things like... palm tree, paradise..
So I try with..
Clue #1 (c): A picture of a wood chuck, a minus sign, and the word CHUCK. She guessed correctly: WOOD! Perfect.

Clue #2: A picture of a U and a picture of her.. she guessed immediatly.. you!

Clue #3: picture of a bee (I think?)

Clue #4: a hole and an arrow going in it

Clue #5: A very detailed picture of me with my uniform on, my badge number, and a birthday cake... so of course she guessed it right away!

Clue #6: A picture of a wedding with all the bridesmaids and groomsmen all together with an arrow pointing at one of them

.... Then she had to check "yes" or "no" if she wanted to. She checked yes

Movers Pack The House

Its SNOWING like crazy! Been up all night packing the house... as I had been doing all week after work.

Movers came and packed up the house in a big truck.
They wrapped up all the furniture in big blankets and tape.. boxes, boxes, and more boxes! They also packed all the art work and kitchen.

As our "binding contract" from our in home estimate was a specific amount.. we were not-so-delightfully surprised by the ONE THOUSAND DOLLAR increase when we went to sign for the paper work.

My patience went immediatly out the window with my lack of sleep, long day of packing and cleaning as things went out the door...

Reason for the upgrade: More stuff in the house than before. False, there was actually less stuff.

We haggled, got mad, got even and split the difference. It was still less than the other moving companies, so we were happy in the end.

The movers will be driving our posessions to Georgia in 3 months.
